Proofreading Defined

It's easy to assume that after going through the whole writing process and using a computer's spell-check and grammar-check that the paper will be perfect. It's important to remember that computers will not find all errors within a paper. For this last stage, a writer should take a break from the paper --don't look at it for a least a couple of hours -- then carefully review for silly mistakes. It's very common to overlook "their" and "there" or "for" and "from." Take the time review line-by-line for the careless errors that can cause a decrease in grade. Some writers find it helpful to read their papers from the last line to the first line while proofreading.
