COVID-19 Closure - Service Updates
3/22/20: The Writing Center is closed and face-to-face meetings are unavailable at this time. However, many of our SMCC writing tutors are now online and available to help, via BlackBoard Collaborate and the Google Suite of products/services. Please review the schedule below and click on a tutor's name to make an appointment and begin the process.
If you don't see the availability you're looking for, SmarThinking online tutoring also remains available to students. Please click the “Online Writing Support” tab to connect with that service. For math and science tutoring support, please visit the Tutoring page.
For more information from the college, please visit SMCC’s COVID-19 information page: https://www.smccme.edu/about/coronavirus-covid-19/
Please click on a tutor's name to book an appointment. All writing will be submitted via Google Docs and help sessions will occur in Blackboard Collaborate. Your appointment confirmation will contain detailed instructions.

The Writing Center offers drop-in assistance from faculty and trained peer tutors. Come prepared with the following to have a productive session:
Remember to give yourself at least 24 hours to make revisions! Writing tutors may not work on same-day due date assignments.
Consider completing a Writing Preparation form prior to your session (downloadable below). This will save you time!
WISH (Workshops In Studying Here at SMCC) are half hour workshops on college success and study skills. This semester we're trying something new and holding face-to-face WISH workshops by appointment only.
They'll still take a half hour and they'll still cover the success skills you're hoping to learn - they just won't be happening as "drop-ins." If you would like to schedule a WISH consultation for yourself, or even a small study group, please see the Tutoring Front Desk or call 741-5535.
And don't forget: if you're pressed for time, you can also learn the WISH skills through online workshops in BlackBoard!
We want you to leave your tutoring session knowing more about writing than you did when you came in. We do not simply want you to earn a better grade on a particular paper; our goal is for you to become a better writer.
The Writing Center provides assistance with writing assignments from all courses, not just English. All SMCC students are welcome to drop in for a 30-minute session with a peer or faculty tutor who will get you on course to revise your draft and improve your writing. We will discuss the ideas you are trying to get across, while paying attention to thesis clarity, logical organization of ideas, and different ways to structure sentences.
